I still remembered, on last June 16th, i saw flicker.com still displayed its own website, nothing information about flickr.com .
As we know, flickr.com is owned by Yahoo, which is an image and video hosting website, web service suite, and online community. But flicker.com only displayed its logo and traffics stats as pictures below.
From previous flicker.com traffics information, we know that flicker.com have big traffics which means “easy money” – 3.6million visits per year !!. Because flicker.com doesn’t have any updated contents, unless its logo and traffics stats, we can concluded that flicker.com traffics are mostly from visitors that have misspelled flickr.com .
That’s why Yahoo really want this domain name, i have no idea why Yahoo purchased flickr.com instead of flicker.com before. Then, on year 2005, Yahoo tried to buy this domain name by offering $600,000 !! But flicker.com’s domain owner rejected this big offer, maybe this price is not enough, maybe…
As a result, this year, Yahoo had filed a lawsuit against flicker.com’s domain owner for cybersquatting, trademark infringement, false designation of origin, dilution, and unfair competition. Finally, Yahoo and flicker.com’s domain owner had came to some sort of agreement, then Yahoo got flicker.com domain and redirect this great domain to flickr.com. The final price for flicker.com is still keep in silence, but the main point is flicker.com is owned by Yahoo from Jun 2010…
